Conción del Club David
The "Cancion del Club David" was composed for the David Club in David, Panamá to pay tribute to the wildlife and customs of the vibrant Chiriqui region of Panamá. I have been impressed by its striking contrasts... from the bustle of David, to agricultural hubs with rich volcanic soil, to the unique and varied bird species it boasts. In this orchestral poem I represented the agrarian and wildlife aspects with slower, almost chorale sounds of woodwinds and brass. The strings also play their part by bridging the gap between old traditional orchestral melodies and a newer Cumbia/Samba fusion. I ask forgiveness from the purists among us for that fusion because I also wanted to set the music in a style that also honors a "Classical" orchestra. Brass weaves in and out, like a street band that spontaneously celebrates the rhythmic joy of life.
