The Jazzical Music Store - Jazz Scores & Parts
"Eine Kleine Tango" - 3 Cellos, Piano, Guitar, Accordian, Bass
Elene Casanova suggested to me that I should compose something to go with a concert she was putting on that celebrates the Tango. I jokingly said, "Why not turn 'Eine Kleine Nacht Music' into a tango?". We looked at each other and said, "Not a bad idea!". That, as they say, is history. Score and Parts.
Me and My Cello - MP3s
These are the MP3 files of the "Me and My Cello" benefit concert Clovice Lewis did on April 13, 2018 for Shanda Harry, who was running for Superior Court Judge in Lake County, CA. A few people reminded me of superstitions about doing anything on "Friday the 13th". I scoffed!
The universe had other plans. In spite of all, we managed to produce a magnificent concert... once I let go of my expectations. Shanda was subsequently elected.
Wedding March - Score and Parts
The recording of this piece is a free gift. Here are the Score and Parts if you wish to have real musicians perform this at your wedding.
Wind Quartet - Score and Parts
This was originally a trio for Flute, Oboe, and Bassoon composed in 1981. It was first performed in the Summer of 1993. The three movements are "Being Fugueal", "Time To Do Things", and "That Again". The piece was written during a time which I describe as my "American Gothic" period. It breaks away from the tyranny of both tonality and the oppressive "twentieth-century" atonality of my contemporaries. I arranged it to add Horn in 2025.
Centennial Fanfare - Score and Parts
This brass fanfare was commissioned in 1992 by the Alameda County Arts Commission to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the city of Hayward. It was performed by members of the Ohlone College Orchestra in 1992 with Lawrence Kohl conducting, but I did not get a live recording of the piece.
"Harlem Voices" Suite for Concert Band - Score and Parts
Harlem Voices© is a musical I composed that is set in the 1920s. It is the first of three musicals dealing with Harlem, NY from 1923 through the present day. Harlem Voices© explores present-day issues of racism, LGBTQ issues, inept leadership, African-American military service in WWI, and racial profiling (among many other issues). It is about a brilliant young black vocalist who was traumatized by the Rosewood, FL massacre of her family members by the KKK. She is conflicted by falling in love with a white patron of the racially segregated club where she works in Harlem called the Black Jay Club. The time frame of Harlem Voices© is from January 4, 1923 through March 25, 1935.
This suite of pieces are arrangements for concert band that I did of key songs from Harlem Voices©. I included lyrics for "They Night They Burned Rosewood", "Jacks' Not So Bad", and "Heart Broken Heart"so the listener can gain an understanding of the emotional setting of the movements. The Pantheon Club Swing is an instrumental piece with no lyrics.
50 Years: Score and Parts
This piece was composed to honor my parent's 50 year wedding anniversary.
