Before You Sleep
Part of a wedding cantata that I composed for my own wedding in 1987. It was actually composed in 1983 as part of a song cycle, and was fully arranged for orchestra to become part of the Wedding Cantata. The song found its way into my "Harlem Voices: Revisited" musical.

Before You Sleep
Think of me sometimes before you sleep. Then close your eyes to dream and I’ll be there. Fear blinds our hearts when we’re awake, So walk with me in light… Sharing this - our perfect union - And take me to the dawn. (orchestral) Think of me sometimes before you sleep, And let my love guide you beyond the stars. We’ll gather enigma from the shores of time, And wash them in the sea of life. In this place where thoughts are real I’ll give you my secrets. When you dream of me I will be there! |
